Master Techniques : WIPS

references / study material

I’ve always been intensely interested in “the old Master’s” way of painting. I’ve tried numerous techniques to no avail. Most resources on the subject aren’t terribly thorough, but I did the best I could figure out and it all sucked.

Earlier this winter I discovered a man that teaches the Flemish way. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but it definitely put me in the right direction. So, I decided the best way to put what I’ve learned to the test is by copying some masterworks; a simple vanitas by Philippe de Champaigne, and a relatively simple portrait by Rubens.

It’s all an incredibly lengthy process, but if I can finally obtain the look I’ve been desperately searching for, it will definitely be worth it.
